Vocal registers revisited
The paper concerns the quest to find acoustical parameters that describe properties of vocal fold functioning from professional singing to voice pathologies. Improved data handling within the framework of phonetogram recordings has been used to arrive at a better understanding of what acoustical parameters could tell us about vocal registers.
متن کاملRelations between vocal registers in voice breaks
1783 modal-falsetto register breaks and 853 falsetto-modal register breaks, produced by seven untrained adult male subjects, were recorded and analyzed with respect to jumps in fundamental frequency and sound pressure level (SPL) using a computer phonetograph. SPL and relative positions of modal and falsetto registers were the most important factors underlying the results. Whereas subor supragl...
متن کاملRelationship between perceived vocal registers and glottal flow parameters
The perception of modal and falsetto registers was analyzed in a material consisting of a total of 80 vowel sounds sung by 10 choir singers, 40 sung in modal register and 40 in falsetto register. These vowel sounds were classified by sixteen expert listeners in a force choice test and the number of votes for modal was compared with the voice source parameters (1) Closed Quotient (Qclosed)and (2...
متن کاملAcoustic and perceptual analysis of vocal registers in children
According to Hirano, Kurita and Nakashima (1983) the vocal fold structure changes continuously from earliest childhood to late adolescence. During pubert), the elastic fibers are differentiated from the deeper collagenous fibers. These changes can be assumed to affect the vocal register function. The pitches at which register transitions occurred were identified perceptually in recordings of 15...
متن کاملProfessional opera tenors' vocal tract configurations in registers.
OBJECTIVE Tenor singers may reach their top pitch range either by shifting from modal to falsetto register or by using their so-called 'voix mixte'. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this study, dynamic real-time MRI of 8 frames per second was used to analyze the vocal tract profile in 10 professional opera tenors, who sang an ascending scale from C4 (262 Hz) to A4 (440 Hz) on the vowel /a/. The scale ...
